Centernia: “Return to the Castle”

Centernia

From the opening page of “Return to the Castle” by Rose Catherine Kahn, I was surprised by how well-written it was. The characterizations, setting, tone, and dialogue were all on point. I kept thinking that this book should be featured or published by a big name house. The author, Kahn, crafted a thoughtful narrative all on her own self-publishing this piece.

“Return to the Castle” focuses on the intertwining lives of Misa, Teren, and Nico, all of whom live in Castle Aurumice (a fantastical place), and Jessica Vance Ravenwolfe, a normal high school student (living in a non-magical world). When Misa seeks Jessica’s help to lift a curse surrounding Castle Aurumice, Jessica has no idea what is going on. It is not until Misa brings Jessica to Castle Aurumice that the pair form a bond. From that moment on, I was hooked.

It should also be mentioned that it is not easy to create a new world. Khan undertook an impressive writing challenge and was able to rise to the occasion. Centernia became a place I could envision, not just being a name. I think that “Return to the Castle” is a great read for young adult fantasy lovers. There is a magical world, family drama, character growth, and so much more; practically something for everyone.

Disclosure: I was sent this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.
